Some of the best memories are made when everything does not go perfectly. This year's MASC tournament at Joyce Park in Fairfield, Ohio, was one of those times.
The rain came down almost nonstop, turning the fields and parking areas into a muddy mess. A section of the road even flooded making getting out interesting. But none of that could take away from what made this tournament so special for me. I got to watch my son play his first soccer games back since breaking his jaw in January.
Seeing him out on the field again, fighting through the rain and mud, was worth it. His determination and love for the game were on full display. It reminded me how important these moments are, even when the conditions are far from perfect.
Between my son’s games, I was also able to capture photos of some of our friends’ kids who were playing in the tournament. The smiles, the muddy jerseys, the sideline encouragement — every part of it told a story worth remembering. Sometimes the toughest days are the ones that bring out the most heart.
Joyce Park was soaked, the skies stayed gray, but the spirit on the fields stayed strong. It was a messy, unforgettable weekend filled with moments that mean more because of everything we had to push through to get them.
If you are looking for a sports photographer or want someone to capture your athlete’s journey through all the highs, lows, and muddy memories, I would love to help.
